Tell us your favorite Thanksgiving side dish, dessert
Every few weeks, we’ll ask readers to share their favorite place for a food item in Southwest Florida. This new feature, Good Taste, lets you tell us where you enjoy food in town or at home.
The debate over the location of the first Thanksgiving rages on (Plymouth Rock? St. Augustine? Virginia? Maine? El Paso?) and so does something even more important: What’s the best Thanksgiving side dish and dessert?
And if I haven’t enraged you enough, consider yet another argument: Homemade cranberry sauce or the gelatinous, congealed cranberries in the can?
For me, it wouldn’t be Turkey Day unless there’s that green bean casserole made with mushroom soup and those dried-up onions. That’s my favorite side, followed by mashed potatoes and gravy, then stuffing/dressing (in any form, I’ll eat them all).

As we grow up and meet other people from other parts of the U.S. and the rest of the world, we find there are many ways to celebrate this feast that’s also my favorite holiday.

Now, for dessert
It’s pretty simple for me: pumpkin pie with Cool Whip (not Reddi-wip). Pecan pie works too, and so do other dessert concoctions I’ve savored over the years, like some rhubarb cake thing that tastes better than how I’m describing it.
Google “Thanksgiving desserts” and there are hundreds of ways to end the big meal, well, the first one before you go for seconds a couple hours later.
Restaurants becoming creative with Thanksgiving food
